Booster pumps: what to know

Our LEO PQ50E-1 automatic booster pump raises the water pressure of a house fed by the mains or by a tank placed above or level with the pump. It starts when you open a tap and stops when you close it. According to its datasheet, this 0.37 kW model has a maximum head of 30 m and a maximum flow of 33 L/min.

Choosing a booster pump

A booster pump takes the water that already arrives, from the mains or a tank above or level with the pump, and raises its pressure. It does not draw water from a well: for that, choose a jet pump. Count the outlets that run at the same time and the height of the top floor to supply. Our guide on which water pump for a house explains the choice. If the booster must run during power cuts, our guide on what size generator for a house shows how to include it in the generator sizing.

Frequently asked questions

Can a booster pump draw water from a well?

No. It raises the pressure of water that comes from the mains or from a tank placed above or level with the pump. To draw from a well, you need a jet pump, such as the LEO AJM110H, which draws from up to 9 m: see our jet pumps.

How much pressure does the PQ50E-1 give?

Up to 30 m of head, about 3 bar, according to its datasheet. Its maximum flow is 33 L/min. The two values are not reached at the same time: maximum head comes with almost zero flow. In normal use, the pump works between the two.
